Don’t Discuss These

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise,
as some men count slackness, but is long suffering
to usward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.”         II Peter 3:9

Certain subjects which are openly brought to the attention of the reader in the Bible will not be spoken or written about from the pulpit. Yet the fact is in most instances the Bible will bring up the issue many times.

One of the most discussed is how the world as we know it will end. The reason for the conclusion will be the wickedness of human beings. Have you as a person at any time heard a sermon on the final end of the planet earth? Probably not.

In any writing, an author should tell or illustrate the benefit of and to the reader. My encouragement for you is that there is a way out of this mess.

There is the usual comment that some preachers only speak on hell’s fire and brimstone. There is no way that I can know the content of “some preachers”; but this I do know the need is there. This should be discussed openly.

Recently I attended a church where the minister ridiculed the churches which are fundamentalist. Then the comment was derogatory about the Bible belt. The South of the United States is considered to be the Bible Belt. Certain groups are put down because they are literalists; that is the Bible can be taken as a literal document. We who hold to the veracity of Scripture are willing to debate and discuss in depth any passage. This writer believes the Bible is a true and correct source.

On one occasion I was asked to teach a Sunday School Class by one of the students. Not once did I ever suggest or request to teach these adults. As soon as the female minister heard this she maneuvered to stop my teaching. It has been my observation those who criticize the Word will not openly deliberate the text. This female minister was hell bent to not allow me to teach.

God wants to help us to have salvation. This is what II Peter 3:9 state:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

We must face reality.

ARE WE IMPROVING?

The evidence is contrary to the facts. The Twentieth Century was probably the bloodiest one hundred years in human hostage. Here are some examples:

• Woodrow Wilson plotted to have the United States enter the blood bath In Europe called WWI.
Both sides lost millions of combatants.
• After WWI the Turks killed at least 2 million Armenians.
• Then the communist/socialist, Joseph Stalin brutally killed somewhere between 20 to 40 million
   inside of Russia.
• In the late 1940’s to 1970, Moa Zedong brought the death of 30 to 70 million persons.
• The most publicized was at the hands of the Nazi regime – when 10 million lost their lives.
• In North Korea, we do not know the numbers – but probably in the millions.
• In Cambodia, it is assumed to be about 2.2 million.
• Saddam Hussein killed untold numbers of Kurds in Iraq.

The list could go farther but it is sufficient to show the willingness of people to commit just one sin Murder.

The United States can never claim to be pure. Between 1960 to 1994, in Guatemala; there were an estimated 200,000 people that died. The United States sponsored this.

All of these murders are to show that the 20th Century was very bloody. Much of these killings were brought about by socialism, communist and progressive groups, who refuse to adhere to the principles of God.

EACH OF THE COMMANDMENTS

In the 20th chapter of Exodus there are listed the Ten Commandments. It is suggested that one look at these and see what the compliance of now and then the foundation for morality. These I have abbreviated to:

• Other gods – what about money, pleasure and sports?
• Other images – what about bank accounts, land and pensions?
• God’s name in vain – have listened to TV to hear remarks about God and Jesus?
• Rest one day – stores are open every day?
• Honor parents – why not go to a rest home and see parents who are seldom visited.
• Killing – look at the 20th Century.
• Adultery – Seldom is marriage honored. Fornication is rampant.
• Stealing – have you been paid interest on your money by banks.
• Lying– in the oil field this is a way of life.
• Covet – common to seek that which is not your own.

PAST EVENTS

There was a time when God was grieved that His final creation was so disturbing to Him. In Genesis 6:5,6, Moses told what had happened when he wrote the book of Genesis.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth,
and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually.”

“And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it
grieved him at his heart.”

Then in the later passage in Genesis 6:11

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.”

One beautiful characteristic of the Lord is He wants there to be time for humans to repent. The word is long suffering. It means God extends time to reform and repent. This is what II Peter 3:9 says:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness;
but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance.”

One could state that the Lord does move quickly when the time for judgment. As we determine various passages we see that God never hesitates once He starts. This is what II Peter 3:10 tells us:

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the
heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

The heat will be so intense that we cannot imagine what it will be like.

It was David in Psalm 50:3 who wrote:

“Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before
him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.”

Who said this would happen?

There will be a change –  what we cannot know about now.

The book of Revelation sets out there will be a new creation. This set forth in Revelation 21:1

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”

There are several passages that allude to this. In Revelation 21:8 there are stated those who will not be present:

“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and
whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their
part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone which is the second
death.”

What a delight that it will not be necessary to listen to the propaganda of the Devil who seeks to explain all evil.

Elizabeth H. Murray

There has been a science which formerly applied to murder but now covers a multitude of events. It has a name: Forensic Science – which examines murder, crimes, frauds and scandals.   There is one person who stands out among her peers.

Her name is Elizabeth H. Murray. She is well accepted in the field of Forensic Science. This woman has written many articles about solving crimes. It will be harder and harder to commit crime.

CONCLUSION

Yes, I know that this topic is not a popular one but Peter tells us that this was going to happen. The final word of II Peter 3:18 are these:

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever.   Amen.”

When a minister, priest or rabbi does not discuss the end of the planet then you can know that person will only tell you part of the truth.

“Am I a soldier of the cross, A foll’wer of the Lamb,
And shall I fear to own His cause, Or blush to speak His name?
Sure I must fight, If I would reign; Increase my courage, Lord;
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain, supported by Thy word.”            ARNE
