Pay Attention

“Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren,
and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye
have received of us how ye ought to walk and
to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
For ye know what commandments we gave you
by the Lord Jesus.”                                                     Thessalonians 4:1-2

Among church members today the feeling is that there are no strict rules to follow.

These people deny that certain formats exist.  The attitude is that a person should be as free as the wind blowing:  Coming from nowhere!  Going no direct destination.  Desiring no final end.

One of the reasons this mental conclusion is because of the doctrine of John Calvin, the Protestant reformer.  He adopted the formal attitude of the doctrine of grace only.  That is what matters.

Oh yes, there are other excuses for not having a formalized set of plans.  This comes out of the 1960’s when those who were in their twenties rebelled at the suggestion there should be any instruction.  Those who were young then are now sixty or seventy years old.  What has been produced are people who are misfits.

Recently over the internet there was a data produced that stated 09.07% of the people in the United States working go to work high on drugs.  Then the homosexual’s brazen attitude of I will do what I want.  Formally these people were called “queers” but that word has supposedly  been banned in the vocabulary of people.  There is no other way to say it these individuals are strange and peculiar.

Yet many leaders assert this is acceptable.  Again no formalized commands for instruction and rules.

DENY AND WEEP

The letter Paul wrote to the numerous churches was to correct certain deficiencies in this practice of New Testament Christianity.  There were 10 letters to the churches.  One should count Hebrews and II Thessalonians as to a church.  So 39% of these epistles were to a select congregation.  Even though addressed to a person one could easily state these nine were how to meet problems or various people in the churches.

We can not deny all people have serious issues in their lives and frankly these are transferred to congregations except most of the time the upheavals cannot be hidden as well as they can in a family situation.  To seek to put a family earthquake in the closet is a mistake.  To secrete it will fester it over again.

The Bible tells how to avoid a problem or if it arises anyway the method to purge it.  The best plan is snap it before it happens.  One should be removed as soon as possible.

Under the command of General Fredendall the Americans met the Germans for the first time on land in the battle of Kasserline Pass.  The German tanks and light infantry trounced the U. S. soldiers.

Eisenhower knew something needed to be done.  He called for the famous George S. Patton, Jr. who met the Germans at the El Qatar And bested them.

In a letter before the battle Patton wrote to his wife Beatrice:

“God help me and see to it that I do my duty, but I must have your help.
I am the best there is, but myself I am not enough.”

The man had been training for the crisis.  He helped plan the invasion of Sicily, Italy and then went to France to fight the battles to push the Germans back.

The man knew the rules of war.  He had been trained.  Unless a person in highly perceptive knowledge cannot be imparted.  There had been teaching sessions in the New Testament churches.  Do not depend upon this in our age.  Have you noticed how many ignorant people say they are Christian; yet a heathen cannot tell Christianity has ever fazed them.

BIG SIN, LITTLE SIN

It is a characteristic for each of us to say, and also comment that certain transgressions are worse than another.  In the Bible not one time is there any implication has greater impact on the mind of God.  Sin is sin.  Transgressions are transgressions.  Yet it seems that some breaking of the law of God does have a greater impact more quickly than others.

Paul talks sense on this subject in I Thessalonians 4:3-5 he states:

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should
abstain from fornication: That everyone of you should know how to
possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of
concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.”

These are the words in the scripture which one often misunderstands.  The word fornification is not the same as adultery.

Fornification carries with it the meaning of sexual relationship when not married.  Adultery means sexual relationship when one or both parties is married to someone else.  This age we live in is saturated  with sex as a come on to people to buy a product.

Adultery and fornication are not new to this age.  What it is now has impacted this time period.  The sin is brazen.  People live together like rabbits in a hole out in the field..  Here are some results of this sin:

  • Excess money is spent
  • Confuses children
  • Breaks God’s law
  • Often violence erupts
  • Venereal disease is spread
  • Breaks a contract
  • Degrades the third party
  • Fraudent in a life
  • Ridicules a promise to God

Do you ever hear any preacher or TV evangelist ever mention this sin?  If a pastor or preacher ever did do this over half of his adult listeners would be upset.  He probably would be fired shortly.

It is common for women to gravitate to money and power so if the male possesses either money or power he will be tempted to sin.

FRAUD

In the legal system there are fundamental elements for fraud to be called fraud.  These are that must be:

  1. A representation
  2. It is conveyed to another
  3. The perpetrator knew it was false
  4. It was harmful
  5. There was damage to the person

What was actually said and done was an evil intent.  What God said was we are to be holy.  In fact in heaven one of the songs sung is found in Revelation 4:8

“And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they
Were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy,
Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was , and is, and is to come.”

In I Thessalonians 4:6-9 these words are written:

“That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because
that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and
testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God who has also given
unto us his holy Spirit. But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write
unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.”

It is expected to know that we Christians are different.  The manner of our personal lives are different and then business is done from another point of view.  The cozy capitalism practiced by Democrats and Republicans is not to be our way.  There is to be no fraud.

Paul had told them before this letter was written each one was to work and to be attentive to their work.  Read I Thessalonians 4:11-13:

“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with
your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward
them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing. But I would not
have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye
sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

The practical aspect of this is to work at your job and keep your mouth shut.

One of the basic tricks in the oil industry is to not pay for 90 days after a job has been completed.  Then if possible to say the job was improperly done.  This is pure fraud.  One area and group that this happens is to the illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America.  Fraud is rampant in the oil patch of West Texas.

CLOSING ACT

The unpopular subject of our day is not to mention this would well be destroyed eventually because of evil.  There are descriptions of this in several places and one of these is I Thessalonians 4:16:

“And for the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the
dead in Christ shall rise first.”

What is hard for people to know about is that evil will increase.

Finally the end will happen.

CONCLUSION

There are several solutions for us to act upon in this chapter.  All is not to be cast down for our lives.

First, there must be the familiarity with what the New Testament says about the rules for living.  Read these for yourself in the New Testament.

Second, Never believe that one sin greater or lesser than another.

Third, do not participate in any fraud whether in business or personal.

Fourth, know that there will be a time when another life will be our existence.

As Paul wrote:

Wherefore comfort one another with these words”

                                                      ( )

“Hear the blessed Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy laden,
come to Me and rest; Come no longer tarry, I your load will bear,
Bring Me every burden, bring Me every care.”
Have you by temptations often conquered been, Has a sense of
Weakness brought distress within? Christ will sanctify you, if
you’ll claim His best, In the Holy Spirit He will give you rest.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Jones
