The Church Wins Only If It Fights

“And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou
commandest us we will do, and whithersoever
thou sendest us, we will go.  According as we
hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we
hearken unto thee; only the Lord thy God be with
thee, as he was with Moses.”                           Joshua 1: 16-17

The last sixty years have been devastating to the body of Christ.  The church of the living God has been in retreat.  One could say isn’t the church on the move in some places like Africa and Asia ?  Yes it is.  The realistic comment is that believers have been in retreat also especially in Europe and North America.

The primary example is what has happened in Europe.  If you attend a service in a church building there are no packed congregations in the auditoriums.

Basically the leadership has been feeding the members pablum rather than solid Bible teaching.  There has been no fire-eating leaders or preachers.

Recently I was talking with a woman who told me that all religions have a god and it does not matter who you accept.  This is the belief of many today.  Immediately I snapped back.  This is not so.  There is but one God.  He has a Son whose name is Jesus Christ.

My reply was a surprise.  She then asked if I would talk to her.  The answer was yes.  It becomes even more demanding since the lady is dying.  She had been indoctrinated with such drivel.  Yet I think inside of her she knew this was a lie.

The ministers of liberal churches often puke out such toxic words that God loves everybody.  There is no reason to accept what some fundamentalist tells you.

Much of these nauseating words originate on the West Coast and the East Coast.  However, now we are hearing these contemptuous remarks over many big city churches in the entirety of the United States.  Large cities in the United States have Christian Seminaries.  The cities still rot from within.

  • Chicago has Moody Bible Institute
  • Nashville has Vanderbilt University
  • Indianapolis has Butler University
  • Dallas has Dallas Theology Seminary
  • Boston has Harvard Divinity School
  • Washington, D. C. has Georgetown University
  • There are many others

The list could be further expanded but it would not serve any valid purpose.  The point is easily seen.  The professors are cloistered behind brick walls.

One possibility would be shut down all seminaries and tell the leaders you are now on your own.  Then each could be like Jesus who was always on the move but Christ was always teaching the people.

Jesus did not teach peace as an end but He said this comes as a result of the acceptance of God.  His words were very strong.  He came to destroy and cut asunder the ways of men.  See Matthew 10: 34-36:

“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth:
I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father,
and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law.
And a man’s foe shall be they of his own household.”

The Hebrews knew if the Promised Land was to be taken, war was to come.  To approach the enemy any other way was foolish.

The first convert of the gentiles was a military officer – Cornelius.  See Acts 10: 1

“There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band, called the Italian band.”

Space does not permit the number of times Jesus was in a discussion with some military person.  Those who trained in the use of arms understand discipline and tactics and strategy.

It was the Roman poet Horace who wrote “Dulce et decorum est pro patrio mori.” Translated it says – “It is sweet dignified to die for your country,”

As far as I am concerned this is a lie.  No person ever won another person by immediately dying for Christ.  Let some other ignorant person die for Satan.  Live to win for Christ.  See Philippians 1:20

“According to my earnest expectation and my hope,
that in nothing I shall
be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always,
so now also Christ shall
be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.”

Christians have been spoon fed so much silly talk that we take these remarks as being the way.  This is false.  It is a lie

There are some actions that we are to follow through.  Read these:

  • Study the Holy Scripture –  Timothy 2:15
  • Tell others of Christ – Matthew 28:19-20
  • Pray- I Thessalonians 5:17
  • Money – I Corinthians 16: 1-2
  • Communion – Acts: 2:42

Other action could be set forth but this will start to give a reader what is expected of  either he or she.

What is lacking in the body of Christ are leaders who know how to lead not from the pulpit and college but in the market place.

One area which I have tried to endorse is that a Christian should never duck a fight with Satan’s forces.  In fact we must seek out a conflict.  Many Christians will prostate themselves before evil.  It makes cowards out of us.

There is a quality of a great leader, it is to adopt principles to circumstances.  This is when the Bible comes to us because we know that no circumstances in our life cannot be found in Scripture. Maybe it is true there is nothing new in the world.

The unfortunate aspect in this world is there are no practice games in our life.  Every event is for real.  Every event has a real meaning.  One cannot say that this is only a scrimmage.  It is always the real thing.

When the opportunity opens up then as a Christian I am to shove my resources into the breach.  This cannot be done by someone saying kindly will you do such and such.  Basically the response must be to attack the people who are controlled by the demons of hell.

As a Christian we are not in a popularity contest.  There are jobs in Christian service that must be done.

The church must take the view to attack, attack, and always, attack.

What made George S. Patton and Douglas McArthur such brilliant soldiers they both had seen action in war.  These men know what battle was.  Thus they lead from the front not behind some desk or field command post.

As a Christian we too must lead from the front.  Remember life is not a scrimmage game.

Personally I have never believed one can be a Christian leader if he or she does not commit  to being a leader.  A Christian is not a part-time person.

In the last two chapters of the book of Acts Paul shows he was a Christian who would be heard.  See Acts 28: 30, 31.

“And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house,
and received all that came unto him,
preaching the kingdom of God,
and teaching those things which concern
the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence,
no man forbidding him.”

There are many ways that we can take a stand.  It need not be before a lot of people but in such a place as the church there  is always a slot where teaching can be done.

We Christians are uncommon so we must accept the fact
who we are Joshua knew there was a way for survival.
It is not different today.

“Lead on, O King Eternal, The day of march has come;
Henceforth, in fields of conquest Thy tents
shall be our home;
Through days of preparation Thy grace
has made us strong,
And now, O King Eternal,
We lift our battle song.”                           Henry Smart
