The Hidden Person

“It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory.
I will come to visions and revelations of the lord.
I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years
ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or
whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God
knoweth;) such as one caught up to the third
heaven.”   II Corinthians 12:1-2.

Every person has a special event that is lodged in a mental compartment within us. It may be an event which we keep inside of us because it brings shame upon us; while in another situation it sounds as if it would be unbelievable if we told about it as it happened. There are stories which we do not like to replay for whatever reason. Then such an incident would not be believed by those around us.

The bigger problem with recalling such situations is that they are embellished when we recall them again.

The best way to lay out some event is to write it out as fully as humanly possible, and then let the writer’s words be your voice. This is what Paul did in the twelfth chapter of II Corinthians.

The first three verses of this chapter do exactly this. Future generations could read the event; but in all the other letters Paul wrote it was never brought up again. Just imagine if Paul had told the situation again.

Our minds travel into realms that we do not understand. This is the reason the Bible says to stay away from witches, fortune tellers and divines. Deuteronomy 18:14 told the Jews that they would be tempted to listen and follow their words.

“For these nations, which thou shall not possess,
hearkened unto observers of times, and unto
diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath
not suffered thee so to do.”

There are other passages which say the same as this warning by Moses. The Bible never says all of this is a fake. It plainly states leave this alone because it will bring a disaster on the person who promotes and practices these evil words.

The Wicked Witch of Endor  conjured up Samuel – for Saul the king.  She told Saul that he would die. This is told in I Samuel 28:7.

“Then said Saul unto his servants, seek me a
woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may
go to her, and inquire of her. And his servants
said to him, Behold, there is a woman that
hath a familiar spirit at Endor.”

Then Samuel told Saul the next day he would die. Read I Samuel 28:19.

“Morever the Lord will also deliver Israel with
thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to
morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me:
the lord also shall deliver the host of Israel into
the hand of the Philistines.”

The ancients used various means to see the future. 30 days before Caesars death, he was warned to beware of the “Ides of March”. This was March 15, 44 B.C.

All of this is not an ancient phenomenon but people still go for this evil. It would appear that women are more influenced by these demonic worshipers than men. Today this type of Satan action is done with cards, hand lines, and holding hands awaiting the action of the other world.

As in the case of Julius Caesar, men looked at the way different parts of the animal were formed and it was often the heart, liver and kidneys that were closely examined. The latest of this absurdity was the hands of Donald Trump.

The Bible constantly mentions the hereafter.

From what we read in II Corinthians 12:3-4, Paul was taken to see the hereafter for a short time.

“And I knew such a man, (whether in the body,
or out of the body, I cannot tell; God knoweth;
how that he was caught up into paradise, and
heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful
for a man to utter.”

There is no way can we know what this place will be like – except this we are told it will be far beyond our expectations. It is so gorgeous that it cannot be described well. This is one place that no one could begin to tell what it is like.

One characteristic of beauty is such, as the time we see the mountains or see the enormity of the sky or hear the sea roaring. We are then speechless. We can only attempt to describe with words of the beauty of each physical sights and sounds.

Paul was told do not try to tell what was observed. For whatever reason, God told Paul not to speak about this. The reason was obvious. If people sought to look at the outward appearance of his creation then our love for God would be near zero.  And not last.

He loves us. We must love him in return. Never forget we have a covenant with Jehovah.

Then Paul makes a remark in II Corinthians 12:5.

“Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.

There would be no bragging. What he would suggest was in his weakness Paul was given the night to comment. His strength could be seen. This was not what Paul wanted so he asked three times to be released from the physical imperfection. But, God said, “No”.

There have been people who were physically and mentally defective but still made great contributions to each of us.

Edison could not hear.
• Toulouse Lautrec was deformed in the legs.
• Joan of Arc was a teenager.
• Beethoven was deaf.
• George Patton was dyslectic & a slow student.
• Moses probably stuttered.
• Nelsen had but one arm at Trafalgar.
• Fanny Crosby was blind and wrote poetry.
• Helen Keller was deaf and blind.
• Ronnie Milsap is a blind Gospel singer.

We should never underestimate people with disabilities. Paul could have exploited himself but he did not as we read in II Corinthians 12:6.

“For though I would desire to glory, I shall not
be a fool: for I will say the truth: but now I
forbear, lest any man should think of me above
that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth
of me.”

Satan was bruising Paul’s ego but Christ came to this man of God and said your physical disability will not be removed because II Corinthians 12:9 sets out the words of Christ.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient
for thee: for my strength is made perfect in
weakness. Most gladly therefore will I
rather glory in my infirmities, that the power
of Christ may rest upon me.”

In our culture who would ever glory in the fact of a physical deformity?

Surrounding Events

The power to change situations was bestowed upon Paul as he had people. Here was a man that changed their lives by miracles and signs which have not been for us but to say these did happen.

Recently there was seen the most recent publication of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), “2015 Year Book & Directory.” This is the annual printing of a group who once were vibrant but are now declining in numbers with no hope of recovery. Since about 1950, they have lost about 1,000,000 members – if not more.

After reading pages 3 and 4 it was easy to understand why they are in rapid decline. There is no mention of the following:

No mention of Sin.
• No mention of righteousness.
• No mention of judgment to come and punishment.
• No mention of what the Gospel is.
• No mention of the superiority of Christ over all creation.
• No mention Christ is the Son of God.

It is no wonder these leaders are not respected by those of us who hold to the divine inspiration of the Holy Scripture.

Reading the covenant of this group is so absurd that one knows their belief is basically a social Gospel idea. This is from page 4.

“In accepting our vision, Mission and Imperative,
we affirm our need to: be an antiracist/pro-
reconciliation church, strengthen relationships
among all manifestations of the church, share
mutually and more fully the stewardship of
God’s gifts of our life in Christ, encourage
our growing diversity within our church
family and community, work with our many
ecumenical and global partners to heal the
brokenness of the body of Christ and the
human community.”

It would be a shame to send a future preacher to one of their small seminaries.
The disciples of Christ is but one group among many that has lost its power. If you doubt this, then go to the internet and put in these for starters:

Methodist church
• Presbyterian church
• Episcopal church
• Roman Catholic church
• Baptist church
• Latter Day Saints
• Church of Christ

The pattern of spiritual death is there. The reason for this is men are not called to repent and follow the Holy Word.

No Drifting

In order that the same Gospel given to this church was kept alive Paul sent a young man which we know as Titus who would keep this way ward church in check. He told the church in Corinth that Titus and he were of the same spirit. This was set out in II Corinthians 12:18-19.

“I desire Titus, and with him I sent a brother.
Did Titus make a gain of you? Walked we not
in the same spirit? Walked we not in the same

Again, think ye that we excuse ourselves unto
you? We speak before God in Christ: but we do
all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.”

It is a human failing that when God’s word has been set forth for men to seek to stop following the rule. This has happened many times. Read the last verse of the book of Judges 21:25.

“In those days there was no king in Israel:
every man did that which was right in his
own eyes.”

This has been true in our time with the United States Constitution when it is called a living document. It is not. The words therein are not to be changed. It is the marxist, socialist, liberals and progressives who use the term “living document.” Man does not like nor will he follow what God states. It is true in government, in social living and in Christianity.
The Apostle to the Gentiles knew what he would find when he came. This man was astute in observing people. Read carefully II Corinthians 12:20-21 .

“For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find
you such as I would, and that I shall be found
unto you such as ye would not: lest there be
debates, envyings, wrath, strifes, backbitings,
whisperings, swellings, tumults:
and lest, when I come again, my God will humble
me among you, and that I shall bewail many
which have sinned already, and have not
repented of the uncleanness and fornication
and lasciviousness which they have committed.”

Men are not allowed to make their own rules. Disaster comes quickly when they do. We plea for the restoration of the New Testament church.

Yield not to temptation,
For yielding is sin;
Each victory will help you,
Some other to win;
Fight valiantly onward,
Evil passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through.
Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

Shun evil companions,
Bad language disdain;
God’s name hold in reverence,
Nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest,
Kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus,
He will carry you through.
