Time To Remember

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast,
call a solemn assembly;”
“Gather the people, sanctify the congregation,
assemble the elders, father the children
and those that suck the breasts let the bridegroom
go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.”    Joel 2:15-16.

In the Western culture it is common for a nation or some religious group to stop doing the mundane actions for a day. Among the people this is normally referred to as a holy-day.   SUNDAY BLESSINGS The further we are removed from the actual day we work to commemorate the less and less it is important.

The Fourth of July was once a time to celebrate our independence from Great Britain Now it is a day for sports, beer guzzling and gluttony. Formerly there were parades, but no more. Now the meaning is not recalled.

Each year the last Thursday of November has been declared Thanksgiving Day. Some actually go to a church service to openly proclaim the goodness and praise to the Lord Jehovah. For most it is a sporting event – probably football. However the praise to God is soon forgotten when the huge meal is laid out with meats, salads and of course the enormous spread of deserts.

Well we need not go into detail about Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day and January 1st of each year. Each tells the story how a sacrifice was made by someone or some group. Yet it is a time of pleasure for each.

KEEP THE DAY

God wants to have His name spoken by every generation.

The minor prophet Joel told the people do not forget when you stated where you started who led you and where you came from. In Joel 2:15-16 the prophets stated this to the reader:

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:”
“Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders,
gather the children, and those that suck the breasts let the bridegroom
go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.”

In fact the prophet set out how this was to take place:

Blow the announcement – the trumpet
• Call the people to assemble
• Special men were to take part
• All children – babes and young
• Newly married were to be involved.

No person was to be eliminated from the  “Solemn assembly.” No Jew was to be ignored or left out of the gathering.

The main leaders were to be the priests and ministers who would act in a solemn way recalling all what God had done. A prayer was to be spoken, which was a serious cry to be accepted by God. It was short but to t he point as told by Joel 2:17:

“Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and
the altar, and let them say, Spare the people, O Lord and give not thine
heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore
should they say among the people, Where is their God?”

What was said can be guessed but there was a religious flavor from the start. The basic thought was to preserve the nation because these people were under pressure to give into their enemies. It was fear constantly. It happened many times

The United States has never felt the fear of a foreign force coming down upon us such as Germany, France, Spain, Austria, Poland and other European nations have. God has given we people time to grow in numbers, and strength but this is coming to the end. So much of the globe despises the United States. In fact, it seems we dislike ourselves. One should notice how we treat the unborn, chemical treatments of all ages, and the means we use to kill each other.

As a people we should look at the past so that two events will be seen clearly. First, how did we get into this mess: Second, how do we get out of this mess?

WHAT IS GOD’S ATTITUDE?

It is not uncommon for God to be jealous how we act toward Him. God tells us he is envious and dislikes us for our attitude that shows how we are.

As we have written before sin has its paybacks that people do not want to accept. Some times the physical body is damaged. Sometimes the mind is twisted. Always sin causes the spirit to be hardened. Sin has a terrible price that must be paid.

What happens is that God turns loose the physical destruction. Joel said it will happen because we disobey God. This is a national event according to Joel 2:18-20.

“Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity the people.”
“Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will
send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith:
and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:”
“But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him
into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea and his
hinder part toward the utmost seat, and his stink shall come up, and his ill
savour shall come up, because he hast done great things.”

The condition had to be met before Christ is coming.

FEAR

One characteristic of the Holy Word of God is that study of it shows we are not to rely on fear as a motivation to act. One could go to “Strong’s Concordance”,  and count the word fear and afraid. This is in the King James Version of the Bible but I suppose it would be the same in any other translations of the Bible.

The prophet Joel does it also in his writings. In Joel 2:21 even then it is said the land is not to be in afraid.

“Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.”

Some would say this passage refers to the population but it seems to have a greater concept because the land would be healed.

There seems to be the indication that the land had been abused and polluted . When a person travels to various places of the past and even now the land shows signs of abuse. The Bible tells man we are the husbands of the earth. Genesis 2:15 tells the reader that even in the Garden of Eden man had a responsibility:

“And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden
to dress it and to keep it.”

Joel 2:22 a great blessing will happen that fruit bearing trees will give forth a beautiful blessing:

“Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do
spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their
strength.”

When it comes time to gather the wheat the gathering floors will be enormous. It was Joel 2:24 that tells us this great fact.

“And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine
and oil.”

The blessing will be that which has been destroyed will be given back. This will only happen if the people return to the worship of Jehovah God. The promise is physical. Joel 2:25 states this fact to us today:

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the
cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army
which I sent among you.”

What God tells us is that if we obey, follow and adhere to His remarks that great blessings will come.

There are evil events that have taken hold of people in America. The killings and the dependence upon material possessions. These are taking the toil in our way of life.

There comes a time when enough is enough. We are there.

DIVIDED AMERICA

It is certain there has been a division in these United States. One side is characterized by evil:

• Murder
• Disregard of voiceless people – the poor
• Theft
• Sexual perversions
• Selfish church people
• No call for repentance

Yet there is another side who speaks of the power of God in their lives. The passage in Joel 2:28 foretold the magnificent power of God:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon
all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men
shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions;”

When Peter preached the first Gospel Sermon he said in Acts 2:15 that was what Joel spoke:

“For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour
of the day.”

Someone has said that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed. The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed. So it is.

Joel said a powerful message that there will be no restrictions who will receive the spirit from God. The little people who have no voice will be in direct contact with God.

There was a common purpose when Jesus was here. It was He ministered to the rich and poor, male and female and unimportant and powerful..

When Paul was in Athens he preached this idea. In Acts 17:26 the man said this:

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the
face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and
the bounds of their habitation;”

The important point is what was delivered by Joel 2:32:

“And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the
Lord shall be delivered; for in Mt. Zion and in Jerusalem shall be
deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord
shall call.”

The normal human knows that the world is evil and sin reeks. Seemingly there is no way out of this mess.

The Christian knows we are only passing through this earth. Only a fool would ever say that at death there is nothing. What the prophet Joel told of the future we know as the truth now.

There is a deterioration among the Anglo Saxons in this country. It was common in the past for whites to visit the graves of their parents and grandparents. No more. Among the Hispanics and blacks even today this is not uncommon. The remark generally is like this: They are not there. True but the reason is to keep their memory fresh in or minds.

Hallelujah, We Shall Rise

“In the resurrection morning, When the trump of God shall sound,
We shall rise, we shall rise! Then the saints will come rejoicing,
And no tears will e’er be found, We shall rise, we shall rise.
In the resurrection morning, We shall meet him in the air,
We shall rise, we shall rise! And be carried up to glory,
To our home so bright and fair.”
