We Need the Rule of Law

“In those days there was no king in Israel, but every
man did that which was right in his own eyes.”   Judges 17:6.

Even though we humans do not like to admit this the rule is very simple. We must be ruled. This may take several forms which we may or may not like to admit. It still is true! Deep within our core value there resides the admission that we will follow a principle that may be good or bad.

Each person who reads this blog knows some person who has a deep love of money. This axiom causes many upheavals in their lives. One can easily see the results in this mindset. Here are some of the results:

• Loss of morality,
• Uncontrolled children,
• Liars, and loyalty is forgotten.

The list could go on and on. When the quest for riches controls us the end result is other humans hold us in contempt. All of this comes about when the love of money controls our body, mind and soul.

The book of Proverbs is a list of remarks that Solomon wrote down for future generations to read and absorb. Proverbs 14:11-12, tells us the end of those who are wicked and each possesses a wicked way of life.

“The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the
tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the
end thereof are the ways of death.”

Those who grab political power so they can control others is another example how some are ruled from day to day. In the United States there has arisen a rebellion against these people of Washington D.C. The cry is to drain the sordid smelly corrupt swamp where these power seekers live, influence, and corrupt the law makers. Actually there is no hope for such a morality of evil that covers the bureaucrats, legislators and lobbyists of our capital.

The seekers of power will do whatever it takes to have and to keep power and dominance over the laws and decisions of the powerful. Here again Proverbs 21:6-7, sets a standard for us as we live our life.

“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity
tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because
they refuse to do judgment.”

Political power finds a home in the hearts and minds of many people. It is not just money grabbers and filthy politicians that a distorted life can be seen. It is here among this list:

Church leaders,
• Social organizations,
• National religious groups,
• Professionals i.e. lawyers, Judges, and
• IRS seekers under 501 c 3 group.

On  one occasion a man came to my office because he desired to create a 501 c 3 organization – supposedly to assist the homeless. When I questioned him further his response was to obtain grants from the government for his own enrichment. My quick reply was that I could not be of service.

In almost every situation there will be told that there is some good which will be obtained. A wise person analyzes the attitude of people when they told you why such action is taken. Few people will outright tell the truth of why.

The real issue is that person acting this way. When first meeting an individual you can usually detect their basic interest and drive by listening to their talk and actions within the first five or six minutes. Actually these people will tell you who they really are. It may surprise you what is said. One must acknowledge that we are all ruled by some thought.

There is an ideology that has grasped the American people. It is termed Socialism. The population believe that it is wrong to steal except by majority vote. The basis of socialism and communism is theft. This is the belief of Hillary Clinton; she and Obama are both outright socialists.

According to Obama and Hilary: if you have it –  then the government wants it.

No place in the Holy Scripture is such thing ever written or ever taught. The Bible teaches clearly that if it is yours then no one else has a right to take it, or to possess your property. When theft happens. action should be taken immediately against the thief. It is found in Leviticus 19:11.

“Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie to
one another.”

The Book of Leviticus goes into much detail as to how we are to live day by day. Teaching was not prevalent. The instruction the judges did not give out judgment. These men were to be the administrator of God’s writ.

What can be seen in the United States today is a reenactment of the life style of Israel just before Saul and David became kings over Israel. People are doing what they want to in sex, their life style and oral commitments about every subject matter.

In Judges 17:1,2, the story began when a man confessed to his mother he had previously stolen eleven hundred shekels of silver from his own mother.

“And there was a man of mount E’-phraim, whose name
was Mi’cah.
And he said unto his mother, the eleven hundred shekels
of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou
cursest, and spakest of also in mine ears, behold, the
silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, blessed
be thou of the Lord, my son.”

In an act of forgiveness, she indicated that she still embraced him.  Judges 17:3, gives to us another part of what happens. This is startling, because what we see in her is a mixture of Judaism and paganism.  Look at Judges 17:3,  for this story.

“And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels
of silver to his mother, his mother said, I had wholly
dedicated the silver unto the Lord from my hand for my
son, to make a graven image and a molten image: now
therefore I will restore it unto thee.”

God had said no graven images Exodus 20:3,4, wrote down God’s spoken words.

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee, any graven image, or any
likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that
is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under he.

The value of this is not known, but it must have been a sizeable amount. Not only were images made for worship but also an ephod and a teraphim were made. An ephod was a sacred garment of blue, purple and scarlet worn around the shoulders. It was a sign of holiness. A teraphim was a figure in human form. God had said do not make these figurines. No one knows exactly what God looks like.

When God’s commands and evil are mixed the result is evil wins.

Our lifestyle resembles that of Israel, because we like to pick what is pleasing then put it out it into the mix with Christianity. You must have noticed the huge attendance at Christmas and at Easter. The rest of the Sundays the audience is about two-thirds less. There is one exception and that is on some day often as catastrophic such as 9/11.  Here in Odessa, Texas – they showed up for rain when the drought had lasted for three years.

In Israel, only the Levites taught the Law of God. The man Micah wanted the semblance of religion so he proposed a business arrangement with a young Levite as told in Judges 17:8-10.

“And the man departed out of the city from Beth-lehem-
judah to sojourn where he could find a place: and he
came to mount E’phra-im to the house of Mi’cah, as he
And Mi’cah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he
Said unto him, I am a Levite of Beth-le-hem-judah, and I
go to sojourn where I may find a place.
And Mi’cah said unto him, dwell with me, and be unto me
a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of
silver by the year, and a suit of apparel, and thy victuals.
So the Levite went in.”

This all was for a political arrangement. This could also be called live-in arrangement. The last verses of Judges 17:11-13, illustrate the event.

“And the Levite was content to dwell with the man;
and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.
And Mi’cah consecrated the Levite; and the young
man because his priest, and was in the house of
Then said Mi’cah, now know I that the Lord will do
me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest.”

In many ways we try to please the Lord God by putting in some area that we know He has commanded. The way we should worship the Creator is not with tidbits’ of curry power. There is nothing we can give him that He already does not have. The exception is ourselves.

There are those of us who state we belong to those who seek to restore the early church in all of its faith and practice.

In the time of the Judges there was no central place for those who accepted the writings of Moses –  who had received these commands from God. It was not until David was annotated king that a central form of government ensued. Thereafter the focal point of Judaism was Jerusalem. There were so many religious articles kept in the temple.

It was in 70 AD, the great change happened when Titus said enough is enough of these rebellious Jews.

There is no mention in the Scripture, that we must be centralized and that the power needs to come from that physical location.

The Roman Catholics have tried this and it is scoffed at by others. The Russian Orthodox has taken the state as central but – that has failed also. There are such silly groups as the Disciples of Christ who pinpointed Indianapolis, Indiana for seats of power. Their attempt is laughable.

God’s Holy Book directs us that we need to be controlled.  We Christians have no rights to do what we feel is right in our own eyes.

What are we to live by? It is God’s word as set out in the Book. Remember, Jesus speaks to us now.

“My Father is omnipotent,
And that you can’t deny;
A God of might and miracles,
‘Tis written in the sky.

It took a miracle to put the stars in place,
It took a miracle to hang the world in space;
But when He saved my soul,
Cleansed and made me whole,
It took a miracle of love and grace!

Though here His glory has been shown,
We still can’t fully see
The wonders of His might, His throne-
‘Twill take eternity.

The Bible tells us of His power
And wisdom all way through,
And every little bird and flower
Are testimonies too.”
